Nintendo announced that its sale figures for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are through the roof already, with over 4 million units sold in the first weekend. Sales units were counted for the worldwide release, across all regions, for October 12 and October 13. While Nintendo stipulates that it has no real reference point, as no global launch was simultaneously done before, it does indicate that combining prior efforts together make this iteration have a 70% increase towards the Black/White 2 release. Additionally, sales figures for Europe are mostly counted for Saturday only, since most stores close on Sunday.
In the past, Diamond/Pearl and Ruby/Sapphire have held the most sold units, with 17.6 million and 16.2 million units sold respectively. Could this strong start mean a new champion?
Give us your thoughts if you’ve picked up and enjoyed Pokémon X/Y or give us a reason why you haven’t in the comments below.
It looks like Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on Nintendo 3DS will continue to add novelties to the game design, slightly going beyond previous iterations. One of the new announcements include Mega Evolution, as a superlative to regular evolution.
In practice, this means that a certain amount of Pokémon can rise above their usual pinnacle whilst in combat and while carrying a certain item. For instance, a Lucario holding the Mega Stone of his type, a Lucarionite, will transform to Mega Lucario, if all other requirements are met. This is also confirmed for Mega Mewtwo and Mega Blaziken, with the latter only yielding their Mega Stone through special Wi-Fi events. You’d like a video of that? You got it.
Another addition to gameplay is a Super Training event that lets players raise the stats of their Pokémon, if they complete these regimens. They’ll be set up with 2 sides of robots trying to fire shots in an opponent’s goal. Succeeding in these also yields training bags that allow for more relaxed Core Training.
Finally, a new gym leader is announced, by the name of Korrina. She’ll reside in the seaside town of Shalour City. A normal type Bunnelby Pokémon, a grass type Skiddo and the new fairy Pokémon Dedenne are part of this stream of content as well. We have screenshots of all these things, because we care.
A new Nintendo Direct event announced that Earthbound, which some know by the title Mother, would arrive on the Nintendo eShop immediately. Owners of a Nintendo Wii U can now access the classic roleplaying adventure on their Virtual Console.
This announcement came with a ton of assets, like screenshots, but also concept art and a ton of pixel art in elusive .psd format. We all know how much you love photo editing, for making game signatures and the like, so we converted those to transparent .png files. We’ll post them below, along with the rest of the assets.
Other big news is the impending release of Pikmin 3 on July 26 and The Wonderful 101 on August. People who purchase the prior will also receive a 30% discount for the latter, which lasts until September 21, 2013. That’s fitting, as we’d definitely advise looking into both those games. Also, Pokemon Rumble U marks the first Wii U title for the franchise and arrives in August 15, 2013. We received some neat pictures of that as well, so we might as well share them.
Edit: This gallery may show as distorted. You’ll need to click through to the “full size” view opening in a new window to see or use the proper, transparent image. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
