Developer Blackpowder Games has recently released an update for their upcoming PC shooter Betrayer, which is now on Early Access on Steam. Its most prominent change, amidst a variety of tweaks and fixes is the addition of color. When it started out, Betrayer’s vision was to offer a minimalist, black and white experience, with only limited red nuances. This is now replaced for an optional slider that adds vibrant colors for those that want to stray away from that path. We’ll post some screenshots of the most colored version below. Also, you can see me personally play the black and white version in this video.
When I voiced this change over Twitter, Blackpowder contacted me to state the fact that black and white is their default, intended look. An additional reason for the change was given with the following quote: “A small percentage of players reported eyestrain. We took that seriously and want them to enjoy the game too.”
Is that the right decision? We all want accessible games. Let us know in the comments below.
