It’s not all good news on the front of FaceRig, the face-altering webcam technology, as it just sent out an update on its Indiegogo campaign page stating that its site was hacked. This breach has compromised backer e-mail addresses, their associated perks and rewards, as well as forum passwords.
Developer Holotech Studios states that their web development contractors TeamWEB are taking full responsibility and are currently tracking down the issue. They already were able to take down a list of users posted on the website itself.
Previously, FaceRig was able to blow past its original funding goal and end up with $307,015. It was so impressive that Valve approved the tool separately through Steam Greenlight. Its technology will allow users to project their face in real time as a character on the screen, such as a fox or a demon. Characters will mimic anything from eye movement to lip syncing.
