Sometimes, games get pulled from Steam with so much as a moment’s notice. Recently, some may have found The Powerpuff Girls: Defenders of Townsville (PPG) had gone missing in action. Its mixture of the superhero show with a Metroid-like side-scrolling adventure is a surprisingly great release. This Cartoon Network (CN) game is, however, no longer available for purchase.
Diving into the Steam forums for the game may give an explanation as to why this sudden departure occurred, as supposedly stated by Cartoon Network’s representatives:
We recently announced a PPG reboot coming to CN next year, and we have new licensees, so we sunset the game to avoid any brand confusion.
Strangely enough, The Powerpuff Girls: Defenders of Townsville already sported a brand new look. The otherwise simplified characters received more features, such as hair and eye details. Since this was against their iconic look, a version of visuals in accordance to the network show was available as well.
It’s a shame these titles aren’t really given a big push by Cartoon Network, since they do have something to offer for those who look past the childish appeal. Hopefully, the supposed reboot will be equally good or better, since it’s not every day a TV show is melded with something like a Metroid.
